Callender Lake - How to Get There
The Lake is less than one and one-half hours drive from Dallas, about 15 minutes from Canton (north), 15 minutes from Athens (southwest), or about 30 minutes drive from Tyler (on the east), as seen on the map below. Other nearby towns include Edom (traveling from HH to the east), Murchison to the south, and Ben Wheeler to the north.
From Dallas, go southeast on I-20 to Canton, south on Texas 19, east 3 miles on FM1861, and turn east onto FM 2339 and drive 9 miles. Or from Canton, you can go southeast on Texas 64 to Ben Wheeler, then south on FM 773 and turn east on FM 2339 for 1.7 miles. The lake is on your left at the long white fence.
The lake rests almost at the center (circle) of a triangle marked by Canton, Athens and Tyler, all of which provide “County Seat” shopping, and of course, Canton also has the distinction of one of the nation’s largest flea-markets, every “First Monday” weekend.
